Everything You Need to Know About Vitamin C

· · Comments

Hey Nolababes!

If you haven’t heard, Vitamin C is having its moment in the sun.  Chances are, if you’re reading this you’ve already found your favorite skincare products that includes this skin-loving ingredient. Let’s get started, shall we? After all, understanding the significance of using certain ingredients is a no-brainer, so today we’re ensuring we cover all the basics for you.

What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C, also better known as absorbic acid (which by the way is the one you’ll want to go for)is the most common of skincare as it quickly absorbs and tends to have the highest potency. With that, it makes for the perfect candidate for all skin types. However, for those with sensitive skin, you’ll want to stay away from lower pH serums as this may cause irritation.

What are the benefits of Vitamin C?

There’s a long laundry list of benefits, here’s a few of our favorites:

  • Bye-bye free radicals! Vitamin C helps to neutralize free radicals in the skin, such as sun damage and environmental pollutants.
  • Provides a boost in collagen production to keep skin firm.
  • Contains anti-inflammatory properties being that it’s a natural antioxidant.
  • Aids in defense against discoloration and hyperpigmentation.

When to use and when not to use.

Early bird gets the worm. Vitamin C, in theory is best used in the morning as it helps to shield your skin from pesky free radicals throughout the day. For maximum benefits, twice daily is a great start. So, once in your morning routine and again at night as harmful pollutants don’t sleep when the sun goes down.

Not all ingredients are fan favorites of Vitamin C. A few notable active ingredients to look out for are those of retinols, salicylic and lactic acids as they may cause irritation. Or just make certain to gradually implement them into your routine to minimize the chances of irritation/discomfort.

Vitamin C in your skincare routine.
