Your Summer Permission Slip (For the Skin You’re Still Learning to Love)

July 10, 2026 · Cozette Molejon

Summer has a way of turning the volume up on every feeling you have about your skin.

The shorts come out. The swimsuits. The little dresses with your back and shoulders showing. And if you’ve got dark spots, old marks, bacne, texture, anything you’ve been quietly self-conscious about, suddenly it feels like it’s all on display. So you angle the photo. You keep the cover-up on at the pool. You skip the thing you actually wanted to do.

So here’s what this is: your permission slip. Signed, sealed, the whole thing.

First, the Feeling Is Normal

You’re not vain for caring, and you’re not dramatic for feeling some type of way. You’ve been raised in a world that sells “perfect skin” on every screen, all day, every day. Of course it got in your head. Of course showing more skin pokes at it.

Naming that is step one. It’s not a character flaw; it’s a very normal response to a lot of pressure.

You’re Allowed to Do Both

Here’s the part that changes everything: caring for your skin and accepting your skin are not opposites. You don’t have to pick.

You can be actively working on your dark spots and refuse to put your whole summer on hold until they’re gone. You can want clearer skin and still get in the pool today. Improvement and acceptance can hold hands. In fact, they work better together because you take care of things you actually like, not things you’re at war with.

Waiting until your skin is “perfect” to live your life is a trap because perfect was never coming. It’s not a real place.

A Little Perspective for the Pool

Real talk: nobody at the beach is studying your skin the way you are. Everyone is far too busy being self-conscious about their own stuff to audit yours. That’s almost funny when you sit with it—a whole beach full of people convinced they’re the only one with a “flaw.”

And the skin you’re comparing yourself to? Filtered, posed, lit, edited. Real skin, the kind with marks and texture and history, is everywhere around you. You just don’t notice it because it’s normal. Because it’s human. Because it’s most of us.

The Actual Permission Slip

So, officially, you are allowed to:

  • Wear the thing. The shorts, the swimsuit, the backless top.
  • Be in the photo. All the way in it, not hiding behind someone.
  • Go to the pool, the beach, the function.
  • Post the selfie without scanning it for spots first.
  • Take care of your skin because you like yourself, not because you’re trying to earn the right to exist in it.
  • Be a work in progress and a whole person at the same time.

The Takeaway

Your skin is not a problem you have to solve before you’re allowed to enjoy your summer. It’s just skin, doing skin things, on a person who deserves to be in the sunshine right now, marks and all.

Keep caring for it, gently. Keep working on the things you want to work on. But do it from a place of “I’ve got you,” not “I can’t stand you.”

At NOLA SKINSENTIALS, that’s the whole spirit: caring for your real skin, not shaming it into something else. So go enjoy your summer. The skin you’re still learning to love is allowed to come with you. 🤍
