Before You Buy Another Product for Dark Spots, Read This First
July 21, 2026 · jane ormon
Dark spots can be so frustrating because they always seem to stick around longer than the breakout that caused them.
I know how tempting it is to immediately start searching for a new serum or soap that promises to fade them overnight. We've all been there. But if I'm being honest, there are a few things I'd look at first because even the best products can't do all the work on their own.
First, stop picking
I know.
Sometimes it's almost impossible not to.
But every time you pick at a breakout, you're giving your skin another opportunity to leave behind a mark that takes weeks or even months to fade.
The less trauma your skin goes through, the less work you'll have to do later.
Wear sunscreen even if you're inside more than outside
One of the biggest reasons dark spots seem like they aren't fading is because they're constantly being exposed to UV light.
You don't have to spend all day at the beach for it to matter. Driving to work, walking your dog, sitting by a window, it all adds up.
Protecting your skin is one of the easiest ways to help those spots fade without constantly starting over.
Give your skin some time
I think social media has made us expect our skin to completely change in seven days.
Real skin doesn't work like that.
Hyperpigmentation takes time, especially if the spots are deeper or you've had them for a while. Consistency almost always beats constantly switching products.
Try not to change your whole routine every week
This is probably the biggest mistake I see.
One product doesn't work after four days, so another one gets added. Then another. Then another.
Before you know it, your skin barrier is irritated and now you're trying to fix two problems instead of one.
A simple routine you'll actually stick to will usually get you further than a cabinet full of half used products.
Then choose products that support your goal
Once you've built those habits, that's when your skincare can really shine.
If dark spots are your biggest concern, look for products that gently exfoliate while helping keep your skin clear so new marks are less likely to form.
That's exactly why Passion Fruit Soap has become one of our favorites. It's made for skin that needs a little help looking brighter without feeling stripped or overly dry.
No product can erase dark spots overnight, but paired with good habits and a little consistency, you'll start giving your skin the chance to do what it already knows how to do.
Thanks for hanging out with me for a few minutes.
